About the Opportunity

A growing surveying and geospatial services organization is seeking an experienced Survey Manager to help lead the day-to-day operations of its surveying department.

This is a hands-on leadership role that combines team leadership, project coordination, field and office surveying, technology, and operational support. You’ll work closely with field crews, technical staff, clients, vendors, and leadership to keep projects organized, accurate, and moving forward.

The right person will bring strong surveying knowledge, sound organizational skills, and a practical approach to solving problems. You should be comfortable moving between office and field environments and interested in helping a team work safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

What You'll Be Doing

Team & Project Leadership

  • Lead and support field and office survey staff while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate project schedules, staffing, deadlines, travel logistics, and field activities.
  • Help ensure crews have the equipment, permits, project information, and resources needed before mobilization.
  • Serve as a key point of contact between field crews and the office during active projects.
  • Monitor project progress and help identify and resolve scheduling, logistical, or operational challenges.
  • Support project teams in meeting deadlines and delivering accurate, high-quality work.
  • Maintain organized project files and records to ensure information is accurate and accessible.
  • Help improve workflows, systems, and processes across surveying operations.

Surveying & Technical Work

  • Assist with land and aerial surveying projects and participate in field work as needed.
  • Operate total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, and data collectors.
  • Perform field measurements, note-taking, and data collection with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Work in CAD to pull points, manage layers, import and export point files, and prepare project deliverables.
  • Support quality control of survey data, processed datasets, and client deliverables.
  • Coordinate the use of surveying, mapping, project management, and data-processing technologies.
  • Learn and utilize field-to-finish and project technology platforms, including Topcon Enterprise and Topcon Field.
  • Support 3D laser scanning, LiDAR, and point-cloud processing using Faro Scene and related tools.
  • Assist with photogrammetry and other technologies used to produce survey-grade outputs.

Drone & Aerial Mapping

  • Learn to operate the organization’s drone fleet for aerial mapping and data collection.
  • Plan and execute drone missions using platforms such as DroneDeploy and DJI Terra.
  • Place and survey Ground Control Points (GCPs) to support survey-grade accuracy.
  • Understand and apply RTK/PPK positioning workflows for precise georeferencing.
  • Process drone datasets into orthomosaics, Digital Surface Models (DSMs), Digital Elevation Models (DEMs), and 3D point clouds.
  • Support quality control of aerial datasets and deliverables before they are provided to clients.
  • Obtain or be willing to obtain FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot certification.

Operations & Administration

  • Manage project files, scheduling, correspondence, and client communication.
  • Support billing records, expense tracking, job costing, and accounting coordination.
  • Assist with permit applications, status tracking, and research archives.
  • Coordinate vendor communication, equipment orders, and general operational needs.
  • Prepare reports, correspondence, and internal communications.
  • Track and categorize project-related expenses and coordinate with accounting.
  • Support timely invoicing and accurate project records.
  • Help ensure compliance with applicable surveying standards, regulations, and safety requirements.

What We're Looking For

Preferred:

  • Experience in surveying, engineering, construction, geospatial services, operations, project coordination, or a related field.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Business Administration, Operations, Project Coordination, or a related field is a plus, but relevant experience may be considered in place of a degree.
  • Experience leading or coordinating field and office teams.
  • Familiarity with land surveying practices, field equipment, and survey data.
  • Experience with CAD and survey-related software.
  • Experience with drone mapping, LiDAR, laser scanning, photogrammetry, or related geospatial technologies is a plus.

Technical & Professional Skills:

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in project documentation, records, budgets, invoices, permits, and deliverables.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and general administrative software.
  • Ability to learn new technology, software, and surveying systems.
  • Basic understanding of budgeting, expense tracking, and invoicing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing project needs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive client and business information professionally.
  • Strong follow-through and the ability to keep tasks and deadlines moving.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a collaborative team.

What Will Help You Succeed

You’ll likely do well in this role if you enjoy being close to the work and like having a hand in making sure all the pieces come together.

This position requires someone who can move comfortably between field operations, technical surveying work, project coordination, and office administration. You don’t need to know every technology or process on day one, but you should be curious, willing to learn, and comfortable taking ownership when something needs to be figured out.

Strong leaders in this environment are organized without being rigid, communicate clearly, and understand that successful projects depend on both accurate technical work and good coordination between people.

The Work Environment

This is a hands-on role supporting both field and office operations. You’ll work with survey crews, technical staff, clients, vendors, and leadership across a variety of projects.

The position offers the opportunity to work with a range of modern surveying and geospatial technologies, including GPS/GNSS, total stations, CAD, drone mapping, LiDAR, laser scanning, photogrammetry, and 3D point-cloud processing.
