We are searching for a Public Works Superintendent to oversee projects throughout Southern California. This is a full-time, field-based role paying $55 to $65 per hour, depending on experience. Responsibilities
- Lead daily field operations on water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including pump stations, treatment plant upgrades, and utility rehabilitation work.
- Work directly with owner agencies, municipal clients, utilities, and inspectors to manage expectations and maintain strong working relationships.
- Study drawings, specifications, phasing plans, and field conditions to plan safe, efficient execution.
- Plan and sequence self-performed and subcontracted scopes of work to maintain continuous productivity.
- Coordinate labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor readiness to keep work moving on schedule.
- Maintain project sites in a state of readiness, ensuring each trade can proceed in proper sequence.
- Draft RFIs and coordinate with the project management team when field conditions require design clarification.
- Conduct weekly safety meetings and complete all related safety documentation and reporting.
- Maintain accurate daily reports, timesheets, and as-built drawings in coordination with office support staff.
- Participate in weekly project meetings, including owner- and agency-facing meetings, representing field operations.
- Prepare two-week lookaheads, pending issue logs, and other field-driven planning tools.
- Confirm monthly progress percentages with inspectors and agency representatives to support accurate billing.
- Coordinate field progress photography and documentation to support monthly pay requests.
- Monitor self-performed work for productivity, sequencing, and budget discipline.
- Represent the company professionally in the field with clients, agencies, inspectors, and project partners.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3+ years of Superintendent or field leadership experience within water, wastewater, pump station, utility rehabilitation, or related public works construction; candidates whose background is limited to general civil or transportation infrastructure will not be considered.
- Demonstrated track record working directly with public agencies, municipal clients, utilities, and inspectors throughout project execution.
- Proven ability to lead crews, coordinate subcontractors, and maintain safe, efficient production in the field.
- Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and accountability on jobsites.
- Practical, effective communicator who works well with project managers, agency representatives, inspectors, and field labor.
- Comfortable with daily documentation, reporting, and a structured weekly planning cadence.
- Experience leading self-performed scopes of work.
- Familiarity with public agency processes, inspection protocols, and documentation requirements.
- Experience working within union labor environments.
- Field execution experience specific to Southern California public works projects.
- Willingness and ability to travel to project sites throughout Southern California.
- Strong, team-first attitude with a long-term commitment to growth within the organization.
