We are searching for an Assistant Controller to join a growing educational organization in an onsite role. This is a direct hire opportunity with a clear path to a future Controller position as the company expands through acquisitions and continued growth. This role is ideal for a motivated accounting professional who is ready to step into a leadership-track position, gain exposure to full-cycle financial operations, and work closely with executive leadership in a fast-evolving environment.


Responsibilities


  • Own and drive the monthly close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting
  • Prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Perform and review account reconciliations (bank, balance sheet, and general ledger)
  • Partner directly with the CFO on financial analysis and business decision support
  • Supervise and develop accounting staff while fostering a collaborative team environment
  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with policies and procedures
  • Step in as needed to support core accounting functions such as AP and cash applications
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Coordinate audit support and work with external auditors
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and support ERP optimization


Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required, with a solid foundation in GAAP
  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience with financial statement and close responsibilities
  • Professionalism with clear, effective communication skills
  • Demonstrated dependability, including consistent attendance, punctuality, and a positive attitude
  • Experience with ERP / accounting systems required; Sage Intacct preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and reporting
  • Prior supervisory or team leadership experience preferred
  • Hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves mindset with willingness to support transactional tasks
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for sponsorship now or in the future
