Project Engineer

We are searching for a Project Engineer to provide onsite support for project management teams. This position is onsite in the Newport Beach area and pays $100k to $115k. The role includes a comprehensive benefits package, with health coverage, performance-based bonus opportunity, and additional support for commuting and professional development.


Responsibilities


  • Provide day-to-day project coordination and documentation support to Project Managers and Superintendents on water, wastewater, and public works infrastructure projects.
  • Support direct communication and coordination with public agencies, municipal clients, utilities, and inspectors throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Set up new projects in internal systems, logs, and communication folders upon contract award.
  • Prepare and maintain CPM schedules, procurement registers, and subcontract lists.
  • Maintain submittal registers, closeout document lists, and cost code tracking.
  • Support schedule of values development and pay request preparation.
  • Process and track RFIs, submittals, resubmittals, RFCO drafts, and related procurement documentation.
  • Monitor pending logs daily, flagging issues, delays, or missing information to the Project Manager.
  • Prepare vendor and subcontract draft documents, including purchase orders and change documentation.
  • Maintain accurate daily project reporting and safety documentation.
  • Coordinate project records, contacts, daily reports, timesheets, and logs within company systems.
  • Attend weekly project meetings and document review sessions.
  • Update project logs following agency and owner meetings, and circulate revised materials to the project team.
  • Gather monthly progress photographs and support monthly reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate across office and field teams to maintain accuracy, consistency, and follow-through.


Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree required; a degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of project engineering or related experience in construction, with public works exposure strongly preferred.
  • Background in water, wastewater, pump station, utility rehabilitation, or related public works projects strongly preferred; candidates whose experience is limited to general civil or transportation infrastructure are not a fit.
  • Demonstrated ability to support direct coordination with public agencies, municipal clients, utilities, and inspectors.
  • Strong document control, follow-through, and organizational discipline.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced office environment supporting multiple active projects.
  • Professional, team-oriented, and practical approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong accountability and genuine interest in long-term career growth within construction operations.
  • Willingness to learn internal systems, workflows, and project delivery standards.
  • Prior general contractor experience.
  • Experience supporting civil, site, utility, rehabilitation, or water-related public works projects.
  • Familiarity with project logs, submittals, RFIs, procurement tracking, and pay application support.
  • Ability to coordinate across project management, field, ownership, vendor, and subcontractor teams without losing detail.
  • Experience working in an onsite, office-based construction environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Bluebeam, and Procore.
