Assistant Controller

We are searching for an Assistant Controller to provide onsite support for a vocational education institution. Responsibilities are expected to grow over time, offering a path to Controller. This position is contract-to-hire and the salary range is $90k to $95k.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial statements
  • Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP and organizational standards
  • Oversee account reconciliations, including general ledger, bank, and balance sheet accounts
  • Support and enhance internal controls, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
  • Provide financial reporting, analysis, and insights to senior leadership to support decision-making
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering development and accountability within the team
  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, cash applications, and other transactional functions as needed
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes
  • Support audits (internal/external) and coordinate with auditors to ensure timely completion
  • Contribute to process improvements, systems optimization (including Sage), and integration efforts related to growth and acquisitions

 

Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in financial statement preparation and close processes
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and core accounting principles
  • Supervisory or team leadership experience preferred
  • Experience with Sage or similar ERP/accounting systems preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in account reconciliations, financial reporting, and general ledger management
  • Willingness to be hands-on and support transactional accounting functions when needed
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for sponsorship now or in the future
