Location: 633d Medical Group — Langley Hospital

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM (8.5-hour shifts)

Pay: $35.00 – $43.00/hour, based on qualifications, experience, and location

We are seeking a full-time Registered Nurse — Gastroenterology to support the 633d Medical Group — Langley Hospital at Langley AFB, VA. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced RN to work alongside a multidisciplinary GI team and provide patient-centered care throughout the evaluation, procedure, and recovery process.

What You'll Do

Core Duties:

  • Perform a full range of nursing procedures, including patient counseling and education, telephone consultations, chart review, IV fluid administration, oxygen administration, vital-sign monitoring and documentation, specimen collection, and other unit-specific procedures as prescribed by the provider
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for adult and geriatric patients
  • Synthesize clinical information from multiple sources and make appropriate nursing decisions
  • Coordinate patient care throughout the continuum to support optimal clinical outcomes, quality, and cost effectiveness
  • Provide nursing care within established ethical, legal, professional, and organizational standards
  • Make patient care assignments based on the scope of practice and skill level of assigned personnel
  • Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and respond quickly and appropriately during emergency situations
  • Set up, operate, and monitor specialized medical equipment, including IV infusion pumps, cardiac monitoring devices, EKG units, oxygen analyzers, nebulizers, and other unit-specific equipment
  • Work proactively with the GI team to assess discharge planning needs and support timely patient discharge
  • Independently administer treatments and procedures while maintaining familiarity with endoscopy equipment
  • Perform IV sedation/conscious sedation, IV cannulation, and IV therapy, including administration of antibiotics and blood products as authorized
  • Provide pre-procedural counseling and education to patients scheduled for GI procedures
  • Prepare patients for procedures and obtain and document pertinent medical histories and physical assessments
  • Safely transfer patients to and from procedure areas with assistance from other staff as needed
  • Assist with GI procedures, including the provision of conscious sedation
  • Assist with procedures such as upper endoscopy (EGD), colonoscopy, ERCP, esophageal pH testing, paracentesis, liver biopsy, and PEG placement
  • Support emergent GI procedures, including endoscopy for GI bleeding control, foreign-body removal, and cholangitis
  • Provide patient recovery care in the procedure room or designated recovery area following transportation
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, technicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care


Department-Specific Duties (as assigned):

  • Perform physical examinations and obtain comprehensive health histories
  • Provide health promotion, counseling, and patient/family education
  • Administer medications, wound care, and other individualized nursing interventions
  • Direct and supervise care provided by other healthcare professionals within applicable scope of practice
  • Coordinate patient care with a wide range of healthcare professionals to achieve optimal clinical outcomes
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards of care, policies, procedures, and guidelines established by the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF)
  • Make referral appointments and coordinate specialty care as appropriate
  • Perform nursing services identified in the applicable task order
  • Participate in research activities that support improved nursing practice and patient outcomes


What You'll Need — Mandatory Qualifications Experience:

Minimum of 1 year of Registered Nurse experience in a similar field is required.


Education: Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from a college or university accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).


Licensure: Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license from any U.S. state.


Life Support Certifications: Current AHA or ARC BLS Healthcare Provider certification and ACLS certification.


Security: Must be able to successfully pass a government background check/security clearance.
